Jackson Wallis, one of five Energy Vision summer 2025 interns.
Jack Wallis, a recent graduate of Haverford College, and one of five superb summer interns with Energy Vision, coordinated an assessment of the amount of renewable natural gas fuel that could be produced in Arizona from the organic wastes in the state’s landfills, livestock operations, food wastes and municipal wastewater. The study was a collaboration between Energy Vision and the Arizona Center for a Carbon Neutral Economy (AzCaNE).
The study found that, with ambitious policies, the State could produce enough RNG fuel (44.8 million MMBTU per year) to power around 40,000 tractor trailers (equipped with natural gas engines). The RNG made from captured methane landfill gases may be the most affordable and quickest to ramp up, especially if they adopt the measures outlined in EV’s new report Leading with Landfills. The findings will help inform key public and private sector stakeholders about the significant opportunities Arizona has to cut its methane emissions and become a leader in RNG production.
